My obsession with the news have reached greater heights now that I have discovered that one can get BBC world service whilst driving to and fro work. Goodbye dodgy DJs and 70s music, hello Aunty. In the past 2 weeks SFM has been away, I have not only been privy to quality news reporting (all depressing) but also special reports on anything/everything.
The most memorable ones thus far: the impact of narcolepsy on one's life (me me me), youngsters in africa being duped by pretend Fergies (sigh), the genetic makeup of a sprinter vs endurance runner (I never knew...) and today how a certain gene can cause obesity in children. Apparently, research has shown that children of certain genetic makeup do not know when they are full from eating and are most likely to be the ones who continue eating despite having eaten a lot thereby resulting in obesity. There you have it - mystery solved, I now know why I cannot resist chips (no matter how stuffed I am) - its all down to my genes.
Now before I move on to the next topic, please can you folks out there help me. Is it just me or is the news just full of doom and gloom? I do not remember things being this dire in the past. Looming recession, food shortages, depleting energy sources, senseless killings, migrants capsizing/drowning et al. The last time I felt so worried about the world was when I was 7- only that time it was the cold war and USSR/USA on the buzzer.
Can someone somewhere please point me towards some + news...

Am currently reading Sound and The Fury, a book that has been sitting pretty on my TBR shelf since 2000. The reason why I finally picked it up is because I have joined a book club and this is the book we will be discussing 13 days from now. I am now up to page 100. Its all a bit of a blur at the moment but I am hoping that the picture will become clearer in the next 20 pages. Otherwise I fear its holding power will weaken, and its rightful place will be replaced with the Guardian Review Stack which is growing in height by my bedside. All very well especially since it will assuage my guilt for not reading something I have subscribed to but what will I discuss with the other girls then?!

SFM arrive back on these shores thursday evening. It feels as though he has been away for months as opposed to the mere 2.5 weeks. Still 17 days is a long time to be away from the young famile...
Am looking forward to having him home again.

Er...a few days ago (a few days too late), I heard Angelina Jolie & Brad Pit have delivered their twins. Safely. Both are boys.
That is positive news.
Kind of. eh?

it's not just you... it's been bad news. i think the US radio podcasts i've been listening too are even worse - how ppl can't afford to buy gas to heat their houses, how canada is appalled they have to resort to dirty gas mining and how it's a recession already.
yay! twins... hehe.

Well, with the catastrophic increase in energy prices in North America, SUVs are being phased out and they are planning to extend the subway system in Toronto all the way to the airport. May take another 15 years to complete but Yay for us!!

....and the Tories are going to win the next general election in the UK.
We do seem to be rushing towards a recession and maybe it will make us all think a bit more about our desire to acquire more and more stuff and how it never leads to happiness - or maybe that's just me?
