Stock in phrase will be...

Pups, oldest Avis Sibling always said one must always have a stock in phrase when one knows an awkward situation is around the corner (e.g. in the past when I was facing the big D and was constantly put on on the hot seat with difficult questions by nosy relatives etc). The rubbish question or statements that I seem to be facing these days is one thats related to my burgeoning girth (never mind that I have only put on 10kg as compared to the 31 that Milla Jovovitch piled on). Taking Pups advice, I have decided that from now on, my answers to all comments relating to how big I am getting is: I'm pregnant, so wots your excuse for being a tub of lard then? (Its strikes me as I am writing this that the people who do tend to comment are not the leanest either...why is that you think?)

Hectic season has strike at work once more. Everyone's engine is on full throttle now that 2007 is truly gone and 2008 is here to stay (for at least another 11 months anyway). We've been busy on the home front too, playing hosts to SFM's best mate and famile from Zim all of last week(s). We also had youngest Avis sibling visiting. They all left on Tuesday. Lots of business for the cabbies to and fro-ing from the Airport to Chez Avis-Sunflower. It was not just them for SFM also hopped on a plane - for Dubai and will be working there this week. House suddenly feels quiet and silent, lucky, good mate S is a-visiting from Berlin and is keeping the hum.

S is out at a meeting this evening. I had planned a quiet evening in today, sorting out list of things to purchase for upcoming event in March, fiddling with the mac and pottering around the house. Alas the nausea spell struck (after a disappearance of about 4 weeks) and so instead I spent a large proportion of the time, lying still, in front of the tele, drinking milk and breathing in and out s-l-o-w-l-y willing the yukky feeling to go away.

It did- after a while - and 1.5 glasses of chocolate milk, half a plate of pasta, a documentary on the fall of Berlin Wall and another one on Hitler's plan for a super city on the History Channel. We finally made good use of cable subscription after 4 months.

The Lunar New Year is coming up next week and we are going to get 2 days off, huzzah.

mac brigade

I have done it; I bit the bullet; I went out and got myself a Macbook woohoo.

For some mad days I seriously contemplated going for the air but then sanity prevailed when I was at the shop. Given that I need the machine for home use and will have to lug my office laptop for work trips and unlikely to be moving around for the next 3 months at least - it did not make sense to get something so thin, light and mobile AND so $$$. Never mind the stylish factor nor the fact that I had planned to walk round with it in an internal office envelope. Heh.

Still, I am LOVING my macbook and like Tonto am now a true member of the Mac Brigade.

down and trying to be up

am not feeling particularly good these days. feeling stressed at work though manage to isolate self and soul from the external forces. its the internal forces that seems to be the problem... now if I wasnt grounded I'd be on the next plane for engerland to find me.

The Used Car Salesman

Two weeks ago, we purchased a set of wheels from a used car dealer.  Much to our surprise, the salesman, Jerry  is not only laid-back (ie non pushy) he's also rather (like the rest of singers) keen and earnest. 

Jerry's kindly agreed to sort out our expiring road tax and the insurance et al.  Over the weekend he told SFM that he's willing to come by my office to pick up our docs and return them once he's done.

At 1130am today Jerry calls me from his  moby to mine - to tell me he is on the way to my office and should be appearing in 30mins. 'I'll call you once I am in your office lobby', he added. I said: 'Great stuff, Jerry, it all sounds good, see you in 3o', put down the phone and added his moby number to my contacts list.

At noon Jerry rings.  I pick up the phone and say: 'Hi hi, are you downstairs?'

Our guy replies: 'No Ms. Avis, I am Jerry Lee, the person you bought the car from'

Good Lot

Thank you everyone for the Birthday greetings.  Cannot believe that have crossed the mid 30s zone. For some reason my mind has been fixed at 31 and it takes time to remember my age these days. hahaha

The past week has been brilliant.  Not only did we have Pups and Famile to stay over the weekend but we also had Azuradec and EL here to celebrate the birthday huzzah.  Unfortunately, I wasnt half as active I would like to be - i.e. most strenous thing I did with Azuredec is to i) walk around Borders and ii)walk from the Spa to the Botanical Gardens. What can I say - am getting heavier by the day!

Still, did manage to get some quality time with Azuradec - we unpacked and debriefed number of occasions and am now missing her loads. Am also missing the other sibs and famile members hugely. Ahh...and also the friendies.

Well here's hoping that 36 is a lucky number which will bring the good lot in.

Fun fun fun

Older sib Pups, wife Nan Bread and their winkles were in town from Thursday afternoon till Sunday Morning. We had fun fun fun.

Azuradec and EC arrived on Sat night and are here till Wednesday Morning.  We are having (and will do doubt continue to have)  fun fun fun.

beautiful things

I have a strong desire to see beautiful things at the moment, like the stuff that is normally featured in those glossy interior/house magazines or blogs like this and this but cannot find an excuse to do so at work so instead I end up clicking on this and this. Sadly the latter links dont quite provide what I am after. Instead they remind me that all is not well with the world at large and that not everyone has the ability to change the page they dont fancy being in.

Otherwise, my sinuses are still blocked and its getting more and more difficult to sleep peacefully at night.  I need to improve this situation. Tomorrow I am speaking to my OB and find out which ancient anti histamine is safe for consumption. Never mind that these pills will put me in a dozy groggy state for the rest of the week. After all, in my day-t0-day activities, I  do not operate heavy machineries, I just deal with very demanding and difficult people.

The changes are taking place, fast and furious:  On Boxing Day, our full time help, Cynth showed up (in anticipation of arrival of Bubba in 11 weeks time (!) ) and yesterday we went out and purchased a sensible set of wheels. 

SFM and I are still trying to get used to having someone living with us.  We are also marvelling at how pip squeak clean the floor is and trying to tell Cynth that she doesnt have to be busy all day everyday. We are so embarrased about having someone else clearing up after our piggy selves that we do the beds quickly before she comes upstairs and clear the breakfast table away as soon as possible, before she returns downstairs again...it has become a mad race.

SFM is off to HK today, back tomorow and then off again to neighbouring countries for work. He's turning into quite the busy squirrel. Meanwhile, things at work have been dead slow all of last week for me but I suspect the madness and hectiness of it all will resume tomorrow.

Am feeling a tad miserable today due to lack of sleep. The Zeds have been eluding me for 2 days now and the sinuses are acting up big time.  Non stop sneezing, stuffed face and scracthy throat. And am not able to reach out for my usual drugs. Damn. Last night was the worst, all I could so was toss and turn and turn and toss and look at the painting facing the bed trying to superimpose sheeps on the paddy fields.

treating myself to a browse at the bookshops (no purchases allowed!) and a mani/pedi before heading off for the penultimate antenatal class. gulp. feel as though I should know more than I do now.

who is impatient for the weekend to appear? am I not supposed to feel refreshed and energized after time out over the festive season?

Hello 2008

Thank you everyone for your messages. Trust and hope everyone had a great start to the New Year. Here at the bird-flower household, celebrations were simple and quiet(ish).  The scrabble game took place at 10pm and ended at 1145pm and the board was just locked so tight it was insane. Alongside words like 'son' , 'burp' and 'zoo' were 'hike' and 'money'.  I didnt think that imposing rule of things to happen in 2008 would raise the game but it did.  We agreed not to score in the end and declared a win for us both. Huzzah.

Exhibition at the National Museum was excellent.  Its amazing how Singers has got its act together enought to i) construct a museum at par with the rated museums in the world ii) managed to get the Louvre to loan them the exhibits. For those in Singers: RA says:  Must see.

Didnt see any films. Nothing of interest at the cinema.

Did however join the evil facebook (muahaha) and probably spent too many hours trying to work on the page and figuring things out.  Dang.

Also started on new diaries and notebooks and started on lists of things to do (like the anally retentive person that I am).  High on the list:-

1. To cultivate yummy mummy look
2. To start on that journo that have been hammering on about
3. To commence reading books on bringing up bubba and deprioritise normal TBR list
4. Prolong this post consumption mood am currently in.
